Righting historical injustices against Indigenous Peoples in Canada is a complex and necessary process. Legal proceedings require thorough historical research. This research often draws on hundreds of thousands of documents that must be collected and analyzed to answer questions and formulate expert testimonies.

At Know History, we pride ourselves on our ability to support Indigenous Nations on Indigenous Claims Support. More than just collecting a bunch of documents, we work with communities to identify the history that should be told, and then we apply innovative technologies to “deep-mine” archives for relevant data. Whether custom coding, Social Network Analysis, or GIS mapping of thousands of points of information, we make technology work for you. The result is that you have access to and can easily visualize all of the information collected—from all angles—before you go to court.

At the end of the project, we hand everything over to our clients in accessible programs so you can use the collected archival records for future claims or educational purposes, or simply to possess the colonial record of your history.

Our associates have significant litigation experience and understand the evolution of Indigenous rights assertion and case law in Canada. We take a collaborative, respectful approach to understanding Indigenous histories. We can also testify as expert witnesses and assist with trial preparation.
